NEW: South Lancashire and North Cheshire BR Blue Period
Phase 6 – Atherton Line between Manchester Victoria and Wigan
By Nick Hudson, Andy Freeman & Steve Price
Uploaded 29th June 2024
As previous downloaders of this route will know, Nick sadly passed away at the end of 2020 and I had decided to complete the scenery on all sections for which Nick had completed the track and associated infrastructure. As Nick was so far ahead of me with the track and infrastructure, by the time I was ready to start on Phase 6, he was helping on other route projects which meant that the Phase 6 track and infrastructure was in a fairly “rough and ready” state so I very grateful to Steve for jumping in and working on track and infrastructure – this has not been a small task and has required, in places, wholesale relaying of track and replacement of signals, but much of Nick’s work remains and this Phase is dedicated to his memory.

Note: The Legacy version of North Wales Coast - BR Blue Period is now a requirement to run this route
Installation: Method 1
(unofficial method)
This is the complete version of South Lancashire and North Cheshire BR Blue Period containing the whole route, manuals for for versions 4,5,& 6, all assets, and a separate download for the scenarios
The Complete Route, Assets & Manuals The Scenarios
I put this complete package together to help newer users download the route and assets easily by putting together all the many asset packs and patches from the previous versions. I also found that the original download for the scenario pack was a massive 488MB because it contained the route files as well. This version of the Scenario Pack is just the scenarios and is 18MB.
Use the Utilities.exe Package Manager (found in the Railworks folder) to install the two .rwp files into the game. This makes it easier to uninstall at any time - and ensures it is all installed to the correct place
You use this method of installation at your own risk - regards, Wotawally

IMPORTANT: Once you have downloaded and installed this Route, Manuals and Asset Pack (which include a number of Reskins), the model blueprint files (which need to be present on the recipient’s computer) have to be copied and pasted into the relevant folders – a batch file to do this automatically is included, it is a simple operation. Double-click on the: SLANC_reskins_v4_1.bat file, found in your Railworks\Assets folder. SLANC_reskins_v3_0.bat shouldn't be necessary, but can be used as well if you like.
Use of the AP Track Enhancement Pack: See bottom of the page
Installation: Method 2
(official method)
If you have already downloaded and installed Phases 4 and 5 of the route, and have run the associated batch file when you installed, you only need to download and install the route, assets and scenarios for Phase 6. If you are new to the route please first install Phase 4, run the batch file which will appear in your Assets folder, and then download and install Phase 5, and then download and install Phase 6. (The batch file for Phase 4 will copy some model blueprint files from host folders that were used in that phase of the route…..if this has not been run then many assets will be missing ).
I would recommend downloading and reading the Manual, it is not long.
Instructions for installing patches:
Extract the folders from the downloaded .zip.
Copy the "Assets" folder to your Train Simulator installation folder (e.g. C:\Program Files\Steam\Steamapps\Common\Railworks), choose to replace files when prompted.

Phase 5 – Warrington & Runcorn to Crewe
By Andy Freeman & Nick Hudson
Nick sadly passed away suddenly at the end of 2020. Nick created all of the track and signalling infrastructure, custom road traffic and reskinned several assets for the route – he was always far ahead of me with the track and had already completed the track through to Crewe ( along with sections between Manchester and Wigan, Frodsham to Hooton and the Northwich area ). I have decided to complete the scenery on all sections for which Nick had completed the track and associated infrastructure.
I dedicate this section of the route to Nick, we never met in person but I regarded him as a friend.

Fixes for faulty Scenarios:
1: Thanks to Stephen (sbowness) for reporting an issue with one of the scenarios which we previously provided with the latest version of the route : [SP]2K73 0632 Liverpool Lime Street - Crewe - the scenario has been fixed (thanks Steve) and is available for download here. 2: Richard realised that one of his scenarios on Slancs no longer works due to an earlier portal change (Rik) 5M12 Perth to Red Bank empties(DT 40) - The scenario has been fixed and the new version available for download here. |
Rik's Scenarios: A couple of people reported not having the "dirty" HAA wagon required for "(Rik) 5M12 Perth to Red Bank empties(DT 40)" and "(Rik) 12.23 Blackpool North to Liverpool Lime Street extra AI (DT 40)" scenarios. He has redone the scenarios without using the "dirty" HAA wagons and they can be downloaded HERE
If you know where the "dirty HAA" comes from please contact me via the "Contacts Page"

This Network is a continuation and enlargement of our previously published route Liverpool to Manchester Victoria and Manchester Piccadilly - BR Blue Period. South Lancashire and North Cheshire were at the forefront, and remained at the heart, of the railway revolution, initially because of the vast amount of industry based there, but also because of the vital link between the south and the north of the country (primarily London to Glasgow and Edinburgh). We aim to recreate this in the time period of 1975 to 1985. Because there were significant changes to the infrastructure during this era, some parts of the network will have a much tighter time frame (which could be different to other parts). The major part of the network will be based on several lines linking the two major cities of the North West Liverpool and Manchester. The River Mersey, and then the Manchester Ship Canal (MSC) were the first links, and then came the various railway lines. We will also build the West Coast Main Line between the two railway centres of Crewe and Preston, and then link these two to Liverpool and Manchester. Another rail centre is Chester, as it has an important junction of lines. This will be connected to the other major cities in the network. Throughout the build, many of the industrial plants (and the power stations needed to generate the energy required to operate them) will be modelled.
The network will be released in stages, usually after a phase has been completed.

Quick Drive scenarios from Liverpool Lime Street, Manchester Victoria, Manchester Piccadilly, Wigan North Western, Chester station and goods yard, Preston station and goods yards, Warrington Bank Quay and goods yards, Garston goods yard, and Wilderspool loop are included. A large number of other scenarios are included with the route, and further ones are available from http://www.wotawallysbits.co.uk/liv-man-br-blue-route
As well as the passenger stations, goods yards and carriage sidings, there are a number of facilities for loading/unloading freight. These include coal mines, power stations, minerals terminals, container facilities, plus non-working timber, oil, chemical and tar terminals.

Use of the AP Track Enhancement Pack
As the route has been created from the original RSC - LiverpoolManchester it is possible to use the Enhancement Pack from Armstrong Powerhouse to change the sleeper profile and ballast. More detail on this is included in the Manual. There is an additional Asset pack for those who use the AP-TE ONLY |
